While I was writing in Nashville, I sat down one day and tried to write a 'twisting' little trucker tune that involved a love story. This is what I came up with and I have been really happy with the responce on this one. I have to say that I didn't llike it at first, but folks kept asking me to play it and I guess it has grown on me.
VERSE 1
Austin left early out of Texas loaded heavy
Eighteen wheel out on the blacktop headed north
By nightfall he should be in Kansas City
But he stopped to grab a bite to eat just off I-44
VERSE 2
Charlotte's been driving quit a while out of the Carolina's
Known as the Barbie in a Kenworth
Headed for the Great Divide
But she broke down just outside of Joplin
It was there that two strangers caught each others eyes
CHORUS
That's the story 'bout how Austin met Charlotte
South Texas headed north and still ran into Carolina
Eighteen wheels brought them together
And the cloverleaf will show them how the knot gets tied
That's the story 'bout how Austin met Charlotte
VERSE 3
Now the highway's what keeps them together
Hauling loads from coast to coast sitting side by side
Someday they'll settle down in the country
Since they met in the middle they're enjoying the ride
