Written by Kenny Ray Horton
So I had recently gotten stationed in Great lakes, IL and was living in Kenosha, Wisconsin and I would ride the train from Kenosha to the Great Lakes Naval Station. My wife was pregnant with our duaghter and the time but we weren't to the point where we knew whether she was a boy or girl. I took a guess as I wrote the song on the train one day on the ride home. Hey, 50/50 chance and i missed on that one, wish I would have gotten it right though.
VERSE 1
I paid the man my money took my seat and rode the rail
Weatherman said partly sunny but my life was going stale
I sat by the window with my sun a going down
Wishing we could keep on riding
Right on through this sleepy town
CHORUS
Then it came to me like a train through me
They say life is what you make it but it seems to be
That if you're dealt a hand you can understand
You just may have found the secret to your life
On the North Pacific Line
VERSE 2
I was living in Wisconsin
She came from middle Tennessee
Man I sure got lucky when that girl ran into me
When she sat down beside me
I knew there's no turning back
And my heart was beating louder
Than the clicking of the track
VERSE 3
There just ain't nothing like it
To see the eyes of your first born
Staring back up at you in the early morning
Now I take him with me when I go to ride the rail
Life is sure is funny you know happiness prevails
