Kenny Ray Horton: News

Amazed - February 11, 2009

I have never had as much fun making music as I did over the weekend working on the new project.

Working with Banjo player, Keith Arneson, fiddle and mando player, Pat White, bass player, Jeremy Middleton, singer, Courtney Williams and Todd Stotler of Echoes Recording Studios in Sharpsburg, MD was more than fun.

I'm really looking forward to releasing this project and seeing what y'all think!

I have to say that I am really proud of it. I'm also proud of the fact that I have bluegrass heavies, Mike Auldridge on dobro and Darren Beachley singing some high notes on the project on Friday of this week.

I wish you all could be there! I will leave some of the studio banter on the recordings so you can hear a little of how much fun it really was!

Looking forward to getting it released in time to have copies for the huge bluegrass festival in Lake Havasu this March.

Stay tuned!

HPLJ,

Kenny Ray

Getting the Players - January 31, 2009

What a great privilege to have such great players agreeing to play on my new bluegrass record.

Darren Beachley, a great songwriter, singer and a long-time member of Doyle Lawson's band, has agreed to come play some rhythm guitar and sing really high.

Pat White, fiddle man for The Country Current and co-writer of a new bluegrass tune, "Mailpouch Chew", on the new record, has agreed to come in and lay down multiple instruments and do some 'sangin'.

The incredible banjo playin ability of Keith Arneson, also from The Country Current and a well known picker across the nation, is headed into the studio with us to provide comic relief and pick a bunch!

If you watched the inaugural of our new President this year, you heard this guys thundering voice on your TV! He is a true country boy and loves to sing as well! You will be hearing the bass voice of Courtney Williams on the new record singing bass on some of the tunes on this record.

Long-time friend and the newest addition to The Country Current, bass player Jeremy Middleton, will be coming in to lay down his debut bass lines to the bluegrass world. Look forward to hearing this guy live when you come out to the shows this year! He's an incredible player and performer.

Most importantly, as I said in my bio, it's a bunch of friends gettin together to make music that, hopefully, people will enjoy and want to tell everyone they know about.

Headin to the studio February 7th and 8th. We'll keep you posted if you keep checkin back.

HPLJ,

Kenny Ray

New Record - January 22, 2009

With the inaugural behind us and much work for us all ahead, I am getting started on a new project.

The songs are chosen and the players are nearly all in place. Now we get in the studio, lay down the tunes, and go play for the masses.

If it were only as easy as it sounds. I am really hoping all of you like this Bluegrass effort that I am venturing into. I feel like the songs are there and we have already played the tunes for some of the bluegrass audiences and the response was very warm.

Stay tuned for the release date which should be coming in early March if all goes well!

HPLJ,

Kenny Ray

A Part of History - January 17, 2009

Who would have ever thought that a kid from Rocky Comfort, MO would ever get to render one of the first few salutes to a new President in such a huge moment in history.

I get the opportunity to be escorting one of the parade participants in the 2009 Inauguration of Barack H. Obama.

So many firsts, so many great things and so many positive changes in the past year for me and my family. I proudly serve this country and represent those who defend our freedom. I am humbled by the this privilege and as I march in this inaugural, I am representing those I have served with in the fleet and the many kind folks back home who have supported me.

It is very hard to put into words what a feeling it is. With the events of the inauguration still ahead of us, there is a definite vibration in the atmosphere here in DC. I cannot imagine what Inauguration Day will feel like.

Tune in and watch history...
